    • Chair Marija Dumnic welcomed all participants. The participants shortly presented themselves to each other.
    • Pedro Felix, the secretary general of IASA, held an introduction on the main topic of the meeting: “Publishing Strategies of Sound Archives”. From the experience of Portugal, Pedro made an overview on various publishing strategies within the archive sector during the history: From the 19th centuries collections of printed sheet music to the online resources of digitized sound recordings of today. Among Pedros conclusions may be mentioned the importance of contextualizing, for instance by producing relevant monographies related to publications of sound collections. He also mentioned the opportunities, but also risks, with online publishing of sound archives: Costs related to data storage, copyright restrictions, ethical aspects and the dilemma of archives losing control of their content when sound recordings start circulating on the internet.

Pedro did also share experiences on working with podcasts as a new way of publishing content of and context about sound collections. Some of the strategies he worked with in Portugal included collaboration with newspapers and radio stations who ran their own podcasts and are looking for content, as well as producing podcasts with famous people as guests, talking about historical events related to sound recordings.

    • Reports on ongoing projects: Wictor Johansson reported that the Karl Tirén Collection of Sámi Joik earlier this year was designated to the UNESCO Memory of the World list. Just the day before the RAS-meeting the certificate was handed over by the UNESCO at a ceremony in Stockholm. The collection which is preserved at the Centre for Folk Music and Jazz Research is one of the oldest collections of sound recordings in Sweden as well as on of the earliest documentation of the cultural expressions of the Sámi people, one of the worlds recognized indigenous people. More info about the Memory of the World list and the Karl Tirén collection can be found here:
