Archives in Times of Peace and War: Safeguarding Audiovisual Memory, Identity, and Authenticity

The International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA) and the Baltic Audiovisual Archival Council (BAAC) joint Conference, Archives in Times of Peace and War, will take place October 19–22, 2026 in Vilnius, Lithuania, at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania.

We invite proposals exploring how audiovisual archives safeguard memory, identity, and authenticity before, during, and after conflict.

Please see the call for submissions page for details on how to send in your contributions.

ABOUT BAAC

The Baltic Audiovisual Archives Council (BAAC) is a regional professional organisation that brings together institutions and specialists working with sound and audiovisual heritage across the Baltic region. The network includes archives, broadcasters, libraries, museums, and other organisations engaged in the preservation and access of audiovisual collections.

BAAC was established to strengthen cooperation and professional exchange in a region where specialised audiovisual archives and dedicated institutes have historically been limited. By creating a practical platform for collaboration, BAAC supports knowledge sharing, professional development, and the visibility of audiovisual heritage within the Baltic countries and beyond.

Since its founding, BAAC has organised annual conferences that serve as an important meeting point for professionals in audiovisual archiving. These gatherings have taken place across the region—from Warsaw to Helsinki—reflecting BAAC’s international outlook and commitment to cross-border collaboration.

BAAC maintains a longstanding relationship with the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA). This partnership has included joint conferences in Riga (2007) and Vilnius (2013), which brought together regional and international experts and strengthened professional exchange between Baltic institutions and the global audiovisual archiving community.

Through its activities and partnerships, BAAC continues to support the development of sustainable practices, professional networks, and international cooperation for the preservation of audiovisual heritage in the Baltic region.
